BCCI Tightens IPL 2026 Regulations

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a firm stance regarding player conduct and technological usage during the final stages of the IPL 2026 season. As the tournament reaches its thrilling conclusion, the governing body has issued a directive explicitly forbidding players and support staff from wearing ‘smart sunglasses’ while on duty.

This decision stems from growing concerns raised by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). Investigations revealed that certain commercial entities were marketing and distributing eyewear equipped with advanced technological features directly to players and team support members. The BCCI’s intervention is aimed at curbing potential risks associated with the unauthorized use of these devices.

Why are Smart Sunglasses Prohibited?

According to the official memo circulated by the board, these specialized sunglasses possess capabilities that far exceed traditional eye protection. The document explicitly states: ‘These sunglasses are equipped with advanced features for communications, which help with live streaming, the ability to send and receive texts, as well as audio and video call features, which can be done via Mobile Data or Wi-Fi.’

The BCCI has categorized these items under the ‘Players and Match Officials Area’ (PMOA) regulations. Within these sensitive zones, any hardware that functions as a communication tool or an audio/video recording device is strictly prohibited. The board’s memo emphasizes that maintaining the sanctity of the PMOA is paramount to preventing match-fixing and ensuring fair play.

To enforce this policy, the BCCI has mandated that all such devices must be surrendered to security personnel. The board has warned that any individual or team failing to comply with these regulations will face severe financial penalties. This follows a previous incident earlier in the season where a Rajasthan Royals team manager was fined INR 1 Lakh for being caught on camera using a mobile phone in a restricted area.

Gujarat Titans Advance to IPL 2026 Final

While the board focuses on regulatory enforcement, the cricket on the field has reached a fever pitch. In a dominant display of skill, the Gujarat Titans have officially qualified for the IPL 2026 final after defeating the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2.

The match, held in New Chandigarh, saw the 2022 champions put on a clinical performance. Rajasthan Royals managed to post a formidable total of 214 for 6, largely thanks to a brilliant 96-run knock from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. However, the Gujarat Titans’ batting lineup proved to be too strong for the Royals’ bowling attack.

GT skipper Shubman Gill led from the front, scoring a magnificent match-winning century that dismantled the opposition’s hopes. His controlled aggression and tactical acumen ensured that the Titans chased down the target with relative ease. With this victory, the Gujarat Titans are now set to face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the grand finale, scheduled for May 31.

Moving Forward

As the league prepares for its most critical match of the season, the BCCI’s crackdown serves as a reminder that the integrity of the IPL remains the top priority. By proactively addressing the potential threat posed by ‘smart’ technology, the board continues to adapt its policies to stay ahead of evolving challenges in modern cricket. Fans and players alike now turn their attention to the final showdown, where the focus will shift back to pure cricketing excellence on the grandest stage of all.
